Waste Of Money - Ariens Lawn Edger Critique

by Madison Garcia

The blade sticks out further then the guide is and the blade is always hitting the walk way or drive way. Even when you adjust the setting to the least amount of cut. In response to this some products can be set to cut a very wide (trench) line. One tool can't do both, so one neighbor has to trench his sidewalks and then backfill them with dirt in order to get a nice sharp edge.

I tried edging with my string trimmer, but once it gets out of hand you really need an edger to do the job properly. One general piece of edging advice.

I was very pleased with this item. It is very easy to use and does a great job edging. Also, I found three cables I wasn't expecting. Fortunately, they were buried deep enough! What a great piece of equipment. Takes a little getting used to when edging off the pavement but it's powerful, quiet and allows for multiple depth settings.

I cut slots in the lawn within 1/2 inch of my radial wires (#14 insulated wires) and the Edge Hog didn't even move them. Very accurate cutting and easy to see where you are going with it. In the end this is an electric edger that requires an electrical cord, so I could only recommend this for personal use on smaller residential lots. However for the average homeowner this is perfect. It is a great investment. I would highly recommend it.

I used to use a multi-attachment gas powered edger (with swap out stems for the blower and weed-whacker). The always "ON" power in the B&D edger is far superior to what the gas powered one could do.

It is easy to handle and powerful enough to penetrate the red clay crust in our yard. I had a little trouble getting precision edge-lines since I was used to a single-wheel model that has been discontinued. But this edger has plenty of power for my needs, and although I was a total novice at this task I was edging in no time. I agree with other reviewers that the instructions are essentially worthless, but you don't need them anyway. He loves it. He says that it is much easier to handle than the neighbors gas one.

It had a tough time with cutting through areas where sod had grown over the walk. I had to use an edging spade to prepare the way for the edger.

Love the fact that you can choose the depth of the edging. I've had this edger 3 years and it's still going strong.
