Embrace Beach Themed Christmas Decorations To Change Up Your Xmas Theme

by Rebecca McKeich

The love of seaside living is increasing. This may lead to the expanded use of tropical Christmas decor. This theme and a traditional holiday one are often combined. However, the seaside theme might well be used alone. Seashells, fish net, and sea life such as starfish and crabs may all be used for decoration.

The most obvious way to decorate is with a starfish tree topper on the top in place of the traditional star. You can glue a sprinkling of glitter, in either gold, silver, or possibly red or green to add some sparkle. Draping streamers from the starfish on top down the sides of the tree can add to the holiday look. Very small seashells might be pierced with a small drill and a ribbon or yarn run through the hole to hang it from the tree. If you don't want the hanger to show, use fishing line.

Rustic driftwood makes good holiday signs when cut to shape with a jigsaw, painted or stained, and painted with a short holiday expression. These can be hung on the door in place of a wreath or in addition to it. The wreath could also be decorated with shells, coral, driftwood pieces, or a surfing Santa. Starfish and a replica of an octopus can be decorated with a Santa hat and used as a wreath or tree ornament.

Table centerpieces are another way to incorporate Christmas beach decor. A tray of white sand makes an attractive display when decorated by partially embedding small shells, coral, or seaweed in the sand. Thread fish net, miniature anchors and other themed items, threading all with ribbons in Christmas colors. Glittery or glass ball ornaments make a beautiful addition to the whole arrangement, appearing as ocean bubbles.

Place cards can be decorated with a combination of holiday themes and the seashore theme for a holiday feeling reminiscent of a summer day at the sea. Tree skirts and holiday cards might be decorated with replicas of things like flip flops, surf boards, seashells, and a variety of coral and seaweed. Depending on whether they are of paper or fabric, they can be appliqued or decoupaged.

One attractive ornament that appears very profession is made using a clear glass ball ornament, confetti in red or green, small confetti shapes, and small pieces of shells, seaweed, or coral. First put the confetti into the ball, after removing the top, add other ornamental items such as coral or shells. After all desired items are in the ornament, use a funnel and pour a small amount of sand into the bottom of it.

A fillable balloon wrap can also be used for this decoration, but with larger and more items. The machines used to fill these balloons are rather expensive, but you may be able to rent one. This allows you to build with larger items, making an actual scene. Items can be glued of necessary.
